My end of Term 1 holiday
This is a view of Nick's bedroom door, part way through stripping the paint from the frame. In the background, the stairwell through to his soon to be study/lounge (next job). Marley's making sure I'm on the job (and not sneaking out for a walk without him). I was really concerned about painting walls that are not in good condition - rough and flakey in places, the odd hole and some of the nails are clearly visible. Nick and I decided to just paint over, as this is a temporary fix. We will make sure that the adjacent study/lounge room is properly prepared (re-plastered etc.) and will come back and redo his bedroom in a few years time.
The wall opposite the door. This is the first wall you see when you enter the room and will have graffiti art courtesy of Willem. The room is an odd shape, with an A-frame like wall on the left as you enter and an unusual half angled wall on the right, containing the only window. There are a couple of colour patches on the wall (Biopaints: Lime Milkshake & Kingfisher). I really wanted to use Biopaints as they are chemical free AND not harmful to the environment. Unfortunately I just couldn't afford them this time around but plan to use their products on future rooms, when finances allow.
I am yet to remove the skirting boards, the rotten window frame and wash the walls in the above pics.
This photo was taken after the first coat of the final colour choice, Berger's "Aqua Buoy". This is on two walls, the graffiti wall and the window wall. Berger's "Liquid Silver" will be on the other two. I'm loving Nick's colour choices! The photo below looks back towards the door. I think the two colours Nick chose work really well together. I can't wait to get the second colour on to see the final effect.
I wiill replace the skirting with rimu to match the door frame and may also put up a scotia. Not sure at this stage. I also have to think about how to repair the broken/missing floorboards before sanding and varnishing. The window is still to be fixed too....so much still to think about, so much still to do! I'm very happy with progress to date though :) The trick is to think about only one job at a time!
